Now I 100% disagree with this. The fact that you're in a DIGITAL MEDIA class, you should expect to have to do anything relating to the topic. Youtube is a great example of mainstream digital media that is developed by anyone and everyone. Another point is, it's not that hard of an assignment. Invasion of privacy? Really?.... I mean... REAAAAALLY? The video just had to be an expression. And therefore it's a digital media because it's a video, and it's on the web.

ALSO if you were in the witness protection program, you can discuss that with your teacher personally. Just be real about what you're saying. The requirement was at least 2 minutes. Justin recorded himself preparing lunch for crying outloud.

And if you have such a stick up your ass about the assignments you're given by someone who GRADUATED from a REAL college, then I think you shouldn't even come to this class.

Save yourself the "drama"

Hi Austin,

I missed seeing you tonight at the class, hope you didn't catch the flu or something that is going around.

Give me a call when you get a moment, 408-416-7344. I asked my friend that works at a Video Game company about what he does there and he does create the games, doing the coding as well as the graphic parts of it. I wanted you to get a chance to meet him and learn about how he got into the business. I am sure he can give you some pointers about that kind of work.

I appreciate the fact that you stand up for what you believe in and speak your mind. That's a hard thing to come by these days.

I do agree with the other commenters BUT it is your choice to choose how you react to profanity and other things you wish to exclude from your life. That's the beauty of being an individual. :]

Yes. Thank you, River. You say, in your video, exactly what I've been thinking all along -- I just didn't have the guts to say it directly myself. When the first YouTube assignment was given, I kinda hinted at the instructor that some students might have a problem putting themselves out there. It IS a privacy issue.

Honestly, this class is not what I expected it to be (I'm sticking it out to fill a requirement). We're certainly not learning much about the technical aspects of digital media, which is what I had hoped to take away from the class. Ms. Lee spoke about overcoming our on-camera inhibitions, but as you state in your video, that sort of thing seems more suited for a drama class.

That's an interesting take. So, not only is the video game maker considered an artist, but so is the video game consumer in how he/she navigates the various levels and advances through the game.

I guess with some storyline games -- and I wouldn't know, having zero experience -- each player theoretically could create a unique outcome (work of art) depending on how they choose to move through them and how successful they are at playing them.

To me, that interactive element would seem to make these types of video games even more intriguing and extraordinary as art works.

As a young person, I take offense to your statement that it is only young people who frequently use the ruder synonym for sex in the mainstream. What about Jerry Lewis? I mean, they invented bleeping things out because he wouldn't stop using it on live international radio. This was in the early 60's.
I also take offense to your implication that only religious people consider foul language a big deal. Just because I don't happen to believe in a giant man in the clouds doesn't mean you have a sense of propriety and I don't.

I apologize if I've said anything offensive here, and maybe you didn't mean these things the way I understood them, but I think the points I have made are important ones.

I agree with you that vulgar language is not appropriate in most situations, but you shouldn't let it distract you from the nuts and bolts of the discussion (or the assignment). Just because an individual blurts an F-bomb every so often doesn't automatically mean what they're saying isn't productive or meaningful to the discussion. This was not a formal address or a work meeting -- it was a casual discussion among friends or colleagues that just happened to be broadcast in an attempt to engage other opinions about the topic.

Do you walk out of a good movie when one of the characters says the F-word? Do you stop reading a good novel for the same reason?
